MoBay United aim at improvements
Assistant coach of Montego Bay United (MBU), Garnett Lawrence, said despite only getting a 1-1 draw against long-time rivals Arnett Gardens, there's a need to improve how they start the second half, as they focus on the next game.
The 'Junglists' rallied late to earn a point against league leaders MBU in their Jamaica Premier League football clash at Jarrett Park yesterday.
The draw kept MBU atop the standings with 51 points, while Arnett remain eighth on 31 points, level with Waterhouse, who have an inferior goal difference.
Cavalier SC jumped to fifth with 33 points after a 1 -0 win over Racing United, who are second with 45 points, one more that Mount Pleasant Football Academy, which battled to a 1-1 finish with Portmore United in the late match. Portmore are fourth on 42 points.
Dunbeholden climbed to sixth on 32 points with a 1-0 win over Chapelton Maroons, who slipped to seventh as the race for the six-team playoffs continue to intensify.
In a mouthwatering matchup, MBU's Brian Brown showed superb technique in the 20th minute when he met a cross with perfect control and finished to break the deadlock. It wasn't until the 85th minute when Arnett Gardens' Ricardo Thomas struck from the penalty spot to equalise.
"We dominated the first half and that's really a plus. What I think we need to look at and revisit is how we start off the second half, it was a bit cold. We ended the last part of the game a little lacklustre," said Lawrence, the former Arnett assistant coach.
"Again, it was all about a team effort but we got individual effort. We just have to look forward to the next game," added Lawrence
Meanwhile, Phillip Williams, coach of Arnett Gardens, said the draw was a positive outcome.
"The second half was reflective of the history between both teams. I think it was a very good second half. To have won that second half which was so competitive, and to have scored and to get a point, it's a good feeling," said Williams.
He also emphasised the importance of winning at home, to complement their away successes.
"We are playing well away. We definitely have to make home advantage also count because I think we're losing too many games at home. It's a young team, I don't know if the pressure of the fans get into them when we play at home, but they seem to be a little bit more relaxed when we are on the road," added Williams.
In another match, Treasure Beach FC whipped Tivoli Gardens 4-2 at St Elizabeth Technical High School.
Treasure Beach's Roshaun Reynolds broke the deadlock in the fourth minute, before Tivoli Gardens' Joshua Dewar levelled in the 16th. Treasure Beach's Raheem Porter registered goals in 26th and 33rd minutes, and Dewar also completed his brace to reduce the deficit to 3-2 in the 54th minute. However, Treasure Beach's Navardo Blair netted in added time to secure the win.
